HCL Announced as Presenting Sponsor of North American Bridge Championships in Atlanta

Jul 26, 2018

HORN LAKE, Miss. (July 26, 2018) – The American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), the governing body for the game of bridge, recently announced that HCL Corporation, a US$ 8 billion technology conglomerate, will be the presenting sponsor of the 2018 Summer North American Bridge Championships in Atlanta. The Championship will welcome more than 6,000 Bridge players from around the world.

HCL has a presence across varied sectors that include technology, healthcare and talent management solutions. The company operates in 41 counties, and has 120,000 employees globally, including over 15,000 employees in the United States. For the last 15 years, HCL has organized the HCL International Bridge Championship, where more than 750 bridge players from around the world compete for a prize purse of US$ 275,000, one of the largest amounts offered in a Bridge tournament.

HCL’s involvement in Bridge started when Kiran Nadar, a trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation and Chairperson of the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, introduced the game to her husband, HCL Founder and Chairman Shiv Nadar. An acclaimed international Bridge player, Kiran Nadar is the driving force behind HCL’s support of Bridge and the organization’s partnership with ACBL.

“Bridge teaches us to strategize effectively and communicate powerfully,” said Kiran Nadar. “These same values are deep-seated in HCL’s own philosophy, which is why the organization finds a perfect fit in Bridge and wants to expand its support of this challenging mind game into North America.”

More than 6,000 Bridge players from around the world are expected to attend the 2018 Summer NABC, which is one of three annual tournaments organized by the ACBL. The tournament – which will be held at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis over the course of 11 days – will begin Thursday, July 26, with final games played on Sunday, Aug. 5.

Tournament Bridge, also known as duplicate Bridge, is a challenging form of the game where all players play the same hands of cards. The luck of a deal doesn’t factor in as players compete to see who played the given cards best.
